While all agents were healthy, a few of the hybrids were left at base, as their presence was not required for a UFO of this size and there was no reason to risk injuries that would interrupt their combat training.

Conveniently, Marcus's primarily long ranged squad deployed right in plain view of the UFO door on the edge of a hill. This made it extremely difficult for the aliens to hit them, while they could easily hit anything trying to leave the UFO. Two anthropods tried to sneak around the side of the UFO with Devastator Cannons, but they were spotted, hit with an incendiary grenade to stop them from firing (aliens have a tendency to start running once they've been lit on fire), and quickly brought down by a variety of light weapons.
For a while, Chris exchanged some blind disruptor fire with an Anthropod hiding in the grav lift in the center of the elevator. Since that seemed to be getting nowhere, Scott flew around behind the UFO and entered through the back door. While he failed to mind control the anthropod, he was able to drive the aliens into action - after killing one spitter just inside the door and running back out, the remaining anthropod and multiworms apparently decided that having to fight on both sides at once was a bad idea, and rushed the main X-Com position. They didn't get very far.
Toxin A was very effective against spitters - it needs to be tested further on other targets.
