The close-quarters fighting in the astrodome resulted in several injuries, but no deaths. In these situations, we may not have the luxury of avoiding property damage much longer. We would undoubtedly have taken fewer casualties had we employed our explosive and incediary weapons. Additionally, our sectoid hybrids were unable to get into position to use their psionic abilities on the antrhopods, which would have been very helpful.

All squads entered the astrodome through the basement access. Motion sensors registered significant activity at the edge of their range. The aliens had apparently been waiting for X-Com response from up in the stands, where it would be difficult to attack from below without the use of explosives.
Deciding that it would be too dangerous to rush
out into the open and attack, squad 3 remained to cover the door
while squads 1 and 2 moved to find another way around. Once it was
clear that there was no alternate route, John fired a few shots
towards the aliens to try to draw them into an ambush. Instead
of approaching when he pulled back, however, most of them disappeared
into the grav lift. Squads 2 and 3 spotted a few bipedal aliens as a
pair of brainsuckers
rushed through the doorway, but it was a pair of multiworms that
rushed out into the open a few moments later.
Stun grenades from Dave and Megan helped disable the multiworms and
were likely a factor in preventing the anthropods from rushing out
with them. The second multiworm was killed and exploded into hyperworms,
but fortunately, the first was only stunned, and since the hyperworms did
not all charge the same squad, no AP/IN grenades or HE rounds were
needed to control them.
As squad 1 moved forward to hunt down the remaining aliens, a popper rounded the corner and exploded near squad three. John and Steve were both injured, but not too severly, thanks to the distance their guns detonated the popper. Not expecting one of them to be in the lift, squad 1 moved to occupy the side rooms. James was injured in the close range firefight with the remaining aliens, but fortunately was able to bring down the last 3 with additional fire from Alissa.
